2020 Columbus, Ohio 9-11 Stair Climb
The 24-7 COMMITMENT team in Columbus, Ohio is honored to be hosting the Columbus 9-11 Memorial Stair Climb.
The Columbus 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb is a way to honor and remember the FDNY firefighters, police, and EMS who selflessly gave their lives so that others might live on 9-11-2001. Each participant pays tribute to an FDNY firefighter, police officer, or EMS by climbing the equivalent of the 110 stories of the World Trade Center. Your individual tribute not only remembers the sacrifice of an FDNY brother, but symbolically completes their heroic journey to save others. Through firefighter and community participation we can ensure that each of the 343 firefighters, 60 police officers, and 10 EMS are honored and that the world knows that we will never forget.
The Stair Climb benefits the FDNY CSU, helps defray the costs to send FDNY families to Memorial Weekend and helps fund the programs provided by the NFFF to support the families of our nation’s fallen firefighters.
Q.Can anyone climb?
A.Yes! The stair climb is open to anyone and is family friendly. Children who participate should be able to climb on their own. We generally see the youngest ages around 8 – 10 years old.
Q.What do we wear?
A.Dress like you’re going to a work out. Some firefighters who participate will wear turn out gear and SCBA’s to honor the fallen in their profession. This is optional.
Q.How long will it take?
A.This year we are climbing at The Fortress-Obetz in a large outdoor stadium – allowing us to be safely distanced. We will allow 100 climbers max per session. To reach 110 flights, we will cycle thru the stadium 8 times. This can typically be completed in less than 2 hours or 1 hour for those in good condition.
Q.Can I climb virtually?
A.Yes! There is a virtual option you can register for to walk or climb on your own. We especially encourage this as we work to keep everyone safe and healthy.
Q.Can I walk or climb?
A.Yes! We added a walking option this year as well. The Fortress-Obetz stadium allows for ample room to walk while the climbers are climbing. So if climbing isn’t your thing, you can still come and support the cause in a safely distanced setting.
Registration fee is $40 online and includes a commemorative t-shirt.
*Register by August 25th to be guaranteed a shirt.
Register as a "Virtual" Climber for $40
There will be no day-of registration due to planning needs for Covid.
Registration is limited to 900 participants.
There are 9 time slots with up to 100 climbers per time slot to help us safely distance and still allow climbers.
*NEW in 2020* Walkers are welcome to circle the stadium in support instead of climbing.
